Fortnite's Save The World Is Going Free To Play Next Month

Fortnite might be an absolute juggernaut of an IP these days, but it's worth remembering that this wasn't always the case. Throw yourself back to 2017, and Fortnite started out as a lucky little PvE game called Save the World, which had you fighting off zombies in a bid for survival. It wasn't particularly massive, and Fortnite only really exploded after it pinched the battle royale formula from PUBG.

Nine years on, Save the World is still kicking around as a tribute to Fortnite's origins, but it was always a paid mode that you needed to lump up the cash for if you wanted to try it out, which is a little strange since everything else Fortnite offers is free to play.

Well, it now seems like Epic Games has also realized that having a paid mode in a free to play game isn't great, as it's finally making Save the World free to play as well. Starting on April 16 next month, Save the World will be completely free to access, with existing owners set to receive Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold as thanks for the past nine years of support.
