Garry's Mod Creator Uses AI, But Says Overrelying On The Tech Is Like Compulsively Watching Adult Content

AI is a controversial technology, to say the least. Scraping the internet and pilfering through artists' work without consent, it's designed to regurgitate information and create Frankenstein monsters while guzzling millions of gallons of water, yet even with all this computing power, it frequently gets things wrong. Just ask Gemini about any video game.

But there's a middleground between 'ban AI' and 'AI is the future,' which is where Garry's Mod creator and Facepunch Studios founder Garry Newman finds himself.

"I don't mind AI that much," he said in an interview with PC Gamer. "It makes my job so much easier, but I know a lot of artists are more sensitive over AI. I think programmers are over it now. They've seen how useful it is, how much more efficient it makes them."

AI data centers demand so much memory that it's led to a major RAM shortage, spurring price hikes on consoles and delays to new hardware.
