Nintendo crammed so many references and easter eggs into its final Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailers that fans are still picking them apart days later. More and more of those fans have noticed that in one new shot, Mario is holding a drill. That has sparked a debate over where exactly in Mushroom Kingdom history that drill is from - Super Mario Galaxy 2, or Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Twitter user KollyIsaac was one of the first to spot and share the blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, which shows Mario looking down at a drill in his hand. They, quite rightly, identify the item as the Drill Mushroom from Mario Wonder, one of the new power-ups the latest 2D game introduced to the series.
The proclamation that Mario is holding Wonder's Drill Mushroom immediately sparked a debate in the post's replies. Many argue that Mario isn't holding the Drill Mushroom in the shot, but a reference to the Spin Drill he uses in Super Mario Galaxy 2. I can only assume the connection being made here is drill plus Galaxy Movie must mean Galaxy 2 Spin Drill, because outside of that simple through line, there's no evidence...
