Nintendo EPD's Next Big Game Could Include "Ideas" From Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong Bananza producer Kenta Motokura suggests that ideas from that game could hint at and influence Nintendo EPD's next big game, just like Odyssey did with Bananza.

Back when Donkey Kong Bananza was first announced and the Switch 2 hadn't even released yet, pretty much everyone was certain that the game was being developed by the Super Mario Odyssey team. The reveal trailer showed several elements that looked straight out of Odyssey, albeit with a Donkey Kong twist.

That was eventually confirmed to be the case, with Nintendo announcing that several members of the Entertainment Planning & Development Division (or EPD) had worked on the game, cementing the idea that some concepts and mechanics were brought over from Mario's last 3D outing. That's likely to be a theme going forward, as Bananza could very well inform the next EPD title.

Earlier this week, GamesRadar+ had the chance to chat with Donkey Kong Bananza's producer, Kenta Motokura, while attending GDC. Beyond getting confirmation that Nintendo isn't answering any of our Donkey Kong theories just yet, GamesRadar+ spoke to Motokura about the connections between Odyssey and Bananza, and whether that would continue going forward.
