Bananza's Donkey Kong Can Speak, Nintendo Just Didn't Think We Needed To Hear Him

Outside of The Super Mario Bros. Movie where he's voiced by Seth Rogen, Donkey Kong doesn't typically talk. Even in Donkey Kong Bananza, his latest game, DK doesn't say a word for its duration. However, in a somewhat surprising twist, Bananza's producer has revealed its take on DK can talk; we just never get to hear his voice.

Bananza's dev team revealed a ton of interesting details about the game during an in-depth talk at GDC last week. IGN had the opportunity to find out even more, interviewing some of the heads of that team after their GDC presentation, including Bananza producer, Kenta Motokura.

Motokura is the one who was posed the question about DK's voice. The interviewer noted that, since Bananza would have been in development at around the same time as the Rogen-voiced Donkey Kong appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, did Bananza's version of Nintendo's iconic monkey have a voice in his head, even if he didn't in the game?
