Saudi Arabia Now Owns 5 Percent More Of Capcom Through Investment From SNK's Parent Company

Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC) has acquired a 5 per cent share in Capcom, according to the Japanese outlet GameBiz (via Automaton).

This information is courtesy of a report submitted by Capcom to the Kanto Local Financial Bureau. EGDC now owns 5.03 per cent of Capcom after acquiring 26,788,500 shares in the company. According to EGDC, "pure investment" is the reason for the acquisition, i.e. the company wants to earn revenue from dividends.

EGDC owns 96.18 per cent of SNK Corporation, developer of the Fatal Fury and Metal Slug series. EGDC is owned by the MiSK Foundation, also known as the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation. SNK was gradually acquired by EGDC beginning in 2020, as the company began to hoover up more and more shares until it wholly owned the studio.

As you may know, Mohamed bin Salman is the crown prince of Saudi Arabia and is the face of a regime that's been gradually diversifying its investments into traditional sports, esports, gaming and other popular cultural industries.
