Atlus has announced that it's raising its base salaries for both graduates and existing employees, and that it's lowering the amount of fixed overtime in employees' contracts as well.
As reported by Automaton Media, Atlus will be raising its monthly graduate salary from 300,000 yen (about $1,880) to 330,000 yen (roughly $2,070). Additionally, both full-time and contracted employees will see their salaries increase by roughly 15%.
According to Atlus, the salary raise is being put into effect in an effort to improve productivity and "foster creativity" among employees, as well as to provide employees with "a greater sense of security" in an uncertain time for the industry.
As well as salaries going up, Atlus is also reducing the amount of fixed overtime for employees from 30 hours to 20 hours. Fixed overtime is essentially a Japanese system in which a certain number of overtime hours are already covered by your monthly salary, since there's an expectation you'll work beyond contracted hours.
Atlus' decision follows a pattern of Japanese gaming studios raising their employees' base salaries, with companies like Konami, Capcom, and Atlus' parent company Sega all raising wages on a regular basis.
As for what Atlus is up to...
