Final Fantasy IX Animated Series Seemingly Back In Production | TechRaptor

An animated series based on Final Fantasy IX appears to be back in official production after a difficult and protracted development cycle, so it might be safe to start getting excited about revisiting the game's whimsical world again.

As spotted by RPG Site, production company Eurovisual has once again listed the show, titled Final Fantasy: Black Mages Legacy, among its upcoming projects. It'll be a 2D affair that spans 10 episodes of roughly 22 minutes apiece.

According to Eurovisual, the show will revolve around the six children of Vivi, who...isn't around anymore after the events of the original game (I'm really trying to avoid spoilers here, but it's tough). One day, one of Vivi's kids discovers a black mage "frozen like a statue in the inn where he works", kicking off the events of the series.

Eurovisual says Black Mages Legacy will ask the question of whether Vivi's "tragic legacy" is catching up with his children. Strangely, the site refers to the character as Bibi; that's a Japanese transliteration of his name, but it's not how he's widely known in the West.

In any case, unfortunately, Eurovisual hasn't provided a rough estimate of when we can expect Black Mages...
