It's no secret that Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney is a staunch AI advocate, even defending Grok when it was being used to digitally undress women. It's hardly surprising, then, that the technology has been creeping into Fortnite, with AI companion Darth Vader making his debut last year — and immediately being manipulated into saying slurs — and Italian brainrot memes Tsung Tsung Sahur and Ballerina Cappuccina appearing in the Chapter 7 Season 2 trailer.
Fortnite is already facing backlash this month for raising the price of V-Bucks to "pay the bills", but Tsung Tsung Sahur might be the straw that awkwardly melds into the camel's back. After all, we've already seen the immediate damage that generative tools can do to a game's reputation, as the once unshakable Call of Duty drew the community's ire over the many-fingered Santa and AI slop calling cards, and is now struggling to break Steam's top 50 most-played games.
Granted, the battle royale juggernaut that is Fortnite probably won't cave in on itself thanks to Tsung Tsung Sahur, but fans are desperate to bleach the game of this AI dreck, and the solution is incredibly simple: let us turn it off.
