No one was expecting Pokemon Pokopia to be the Snorlax-sized hit that it has quickly become. The first indications that it might be bigger than anyone could have anticipated came via its review scores. Those scores dipped slightly in the days after it launched, but as more have trickled in, the hit spinoff's score has risen again, putting it back at the top of both the 2026 and overall Pokemon piles.
Pokopia is back up to a 90 on OpenCritic. That's where it started life when the first reviews went live, but when its score dropped by a single point, it wound up in a fight for number one with Resident Evil Requiem and Mewgenics, both of which are sitting on 89s along with Hermit and Pig and the latest GOTY contender, Esoteric Ebb.
As it has become clearer that Pokopia is a game worth paying attention to and not just another Pokemon spinoff for a relatively niche audience, more outlets have deemed it worthy of a review. Those outlets have clearly been awarding Pokopia either perfect or near-perfect scores, too, hence the return to a 90 on OC.
