Developer and publisher Facepunch Studios has announced that s&box (say it out loud!), its spiritual successor to Garry's Mod, will be launching later this month.
The release date for s&box was quietly revealed as part of the game's latest patch notes on Steam, which include changes like an overhauled vehicle camera, the ability to save and load play sessions in sandbox mode, and more (and the launch date, of course). The game is coming on April 28th.
Facepunch says it "tried to quietly announce" the release date, but "it seems everyone has got excited", so the attempt to slip under the radar failed, evidently. Prior to launch, Facepunch will revoke s&box from "anyone who hasn't played a lot recently, developed games, or bought skins", after which the game will cost $20.
s&box first entered open beta all the way back in 2021, so it's been in the works for quite some time. At that point, Garry Newman, who, as you've probably figured out, was the driving force behind Garry's Mod, described s&box as an attempt at creating a "worthy" sequel to the creativity tool.
