Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke studio Shift Up has acquired Unbound, the new studio founded by Resident Evil veteran and industry legend Shinji Mikami.
In a press release announcing the acquisition, Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim describes the partnership as "deeply meaningful", calling Mikami's development team "world-class" and pointing to the acquisition as an "opportunity to deliver the best gaming experience to users worldwide".
Mikami, meanwhile, says he's "very pleased" that Shift Up has acquired his studio. He says he feels a "strong synergy" with Kim and looks forward to the partnership allowing him and his team to "focus on creativity". Mikami closes by promising to "create fun games" in order to meet fans' expectations.
We don't yet know what Mikami and Unbound are working on, but Kim says that the developer is creating "original PC and console-based IPs targeting the global market", so whatever it is, it's probably not a Stellar Blade or Goddess of Victory: Nikke spinoff.
Whatever the project ends up being, it may well be Mikami's first foray into game development in a hands-on capacity since 2014's The Evil Within, on which the veteran served as director. He went on to...
