We haven't heard anything concrete about State of Decay 3 in a while, but it's finally re-emerged with the announcement of an alpha playtest that can now be signed up for.
Over the past few years, Xbox has garnered a bit of a reputation for announcing games far, far too early and then going years without giving any update on them. Some games, like Everwild and Perfect Dark, have even gotten so unlucky that they've been cancelled after years of development with barely anything to show for it.
One of the biggest examples of this is State of Decay 3, which was announced with a CGI trailer all the way back in 2020 and has only had a handful of new trailers since then, with the most recent being at Xbox's Summer Showcase in 2024.
