Nier Fans Are Still Debating Whether Cosmic Horror Is A Joke Thanks To A New Website

Yesterday was April Fool's Day, quite possibly the most torturous day on Earth for your average gaming fan. Sure, there are plenty of developers out there that like to celebrate by adding goofy modes to their games, or releasing weird merch like James Sunderland body pillows, but there are also developers out there that delight in ruining the days of their fans.

Square Enix was one such developer, as it recently shattered the hearts of Nier fans by announcing a "new project" called Nier: Cosmic Horror. All that was announced was the title and a title screen, which appeared to depict Emil's face with a horrible, coil-like being in front of it. Suffice to say, fans were pretty excited about the possibility of a Nier horror game.

Unfortunately, it all proved to be an April Fool's Day hoax, as the Nier Japan Twitter account swiftly admitted it was a prank after it "caused quite a stir." That would have been the end of it if it were any other franchise, but Nier fans are a special lot and do kind of enjoy putting on a good hoax or two, along with a director that loves to take the Mickey...
