Remember when Kingdom Hearts tucked significant lore behind mobile games? Remember how a small subset of fandom ate it up, adored them for it, while a great many less hardcore players were left bewildered? Don't worry, they eventually released an offline version of that pivotal game—but you can only download it if you had the online version before it shut down its services. Fans have compiled the cutscenes elsewhere. It's a whole thing.

Anyway, here's Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis.

Long story short, Square Enix appears to be at it again. As Ever Crisis players on social media have noticed, a currently-running limited-time event has been digging deeper and deeper into story beats with dramatic implications for the upcoming third and final chapter in the Remake trilogy. Sephiroth's been hammering home ideas of, as noted above, "vibrations, ripples, resonating, frequencies," and so forth.

What does that mean? Well, if you're not an avid Remake lore gobbler-upper, you've likely been confounded by both Remake's and Rebirth's endings, and you may even feel distinctly frustrated by the trilogy's insistence on going big-time meta.
