Road to Vostok developer Antti Leinonen has revealed that the hardcore survival shooter has already made enough money to ensure its continued development for a number of years to come.
Speaking on social media, Leinonen described Road to Vostok's launch period as "absolutely insane", pointing to the game's Top Seller status in "many countries", as well as its Very Positive review rating. It's currently the sixteenth top-selling game on Steam in the world, according to SteamDB.
Leinonen says that he's currently gathering data about Road to Vostok's release period, but that the game has already "secured the entire production budget for...years and years to come". Assuming that Leinonen continues to work on his game, that means this one's not going anywhere anytime soon.
As Leinonen points out, Road to Vostok was created by a solo dev, so the game's success has been overwhelming for him. He says he'll need "some sleep" before he's able to reckon with exactly how well Road to Vostok has done.
Road to Vostok is, according to Leinonen himself, a "hardcore single-player survival game set in a post-apocalyptic border zone between Finland and Russia", which is perhaps slightly uncomfortably close to home at the moment....
