The Nintendo Switch 2 has just passed another major milestone in its incredible debut year, but it won't assuage concerns of an imminent price increase. Nintendo already increased the price of physical games for the Switch 2 a couple of weeks ago, and previously raised accessory prices before the console's launch in response to various economic factors, including tariffs imposed by the U.S. federal government, which Nintendo started a lawsuit over.

Despite worldwide financial volatility, the Nintendo Switch 2 has remained incredibly popular among consumers, and just surpassed five million hardware unit sales in its home market of Japan, according to data from Japanese outlet Famitsu. The Switch 2 was already the fastest-selling gaming console in history, and appears to have lost very little steam as it approaches its first anniversary this June. Nintendo is expected to issue a price increase, though, which could potentially harm the Switch 2's momentum.

Famitsu's sales numbers are estimated, but are considered generally reliable in its domestic market.
