2K Clarifies Unannounced Borderlands Mobile Game Wasn't Released By Accident

There's a Borderlands game on your phone now. You might not have noticed because it was only released yesterday, and neither 2K nor Gearbox really mentioned it. It technically doesn't even have a name yet. All of that led fans of the series to think the game was shadow-dropped accidentally, but apparently not.

Borderlands Mobile appeared on the iOS store on Thursday, but only in certain regions. It's free to download, there's one character when you start, but seemingly a few more to unlock as you progress. This is all according to Forbes, which, after reaching out to 2K to figure out what's going on, can confirm that this was no accident.

Even Call of Duty hasn't been able to keep up.

Developed by Zynga, the mobile developer Take-Two acquired four years ago for more than $12 billion, the mobile Borderlands game was indeed supposed to be released, unannounced, in the US on Thursday. 2K officially describes it as a limited-time test for an untitled Borderlands game, hence the whole launching a game without a name part mentioned above.
