I'd really have to dig deep to find any glaring flaws with Baldur's Gate 3, but one that always nagged me was the lack of interesting companion races. The only party member that really stands out is Lae'zel, a githyanki, otherwise it's all elves, tiefling, humans, and drow, which are basically underground elves anyway. There are no gnomes, goblins, or dragonborn. Hell, I'd take an orc at this point.

Larian has been pretty responsive to feedback — sometimes to the game's detriment — but introducing an entirely new companion post-launch would be a Herculean and unreasonable ask (especially when Wyll deserves a more fleshed-out arc). Even for the community, an entirely new companion that fits into the game and meshes with the story and smaller, more dynamic interactions simply isn't feasible, at least not to the standard set by Larian.

Thankfully, modder Exaen has a decent compromise with the 'Evolved' series.

This collection of mods allows you to summon various characters from the game to your party as makeshift companions for combat, such as Bernard and Pooldripp, but the standout is Sazza, the goblin who you can rescue from the Emerald Grove, Goblin Camp, and Moonrise Towers in Acts 1...
