Someone Is Reverting FF7 Rebirth's Entire Aesthetic Back To The Original Game's

Modder Stepheroth is clearly no stranger to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth tweaking scene. With two dozen mods and counting, they wear their love for one of 2024's greatest releases on their sleeve, and they've even done a bit of work on its 2020 predecessor, Remake.

Now, Stepheroth is getting stuck in on the ultimate undertaking: reviving the 1997 original Final Fantasy 7's character design aesthetic in lush modern HD. While Rebirth's environments remain intact—can you even imagine how much work that'd be, otherwise?!—this is still a colossal commitment, and frankly, a gorgeous one. I love the Remake designs, but... wow.

Courtesy of the rather social-media-prolific Night Sky King, Stepheroth's ongoing efforts are reaching a wider audience, including yours truly. The goal is, indeed, to make the low-poly classic looks available for everyone in the game. Stepheroth is using the battle models, rather than the mega-blocky overworld vibes that would look comically out-of-proportion. We get the best of both worlds here, as honestly, for all the flak OG FF7 gets for those overworld polygons, the battle variants are timelessly cool.

Seriously though, look at that. I don't want to just spam...
