Ubisoft's multi-year process of reducing the number of projects, studios and employees the company is juggling continues, as Insider Gaming reports that Ubisoft Montreal has pulled the plug on the unannounced life-sim project Alterra after three years of development.
Alterra was never officially announced or teased, but past reports suggested it was intended to be a social simulation game in the vein of Animal Crossing, but with voxel aesthetics á la Minecraft.
According to Insider Gaming, the gameplay was centred around NPCs called Matterlings that were housed in different biomes along with a wide array of creatures that can be fought.
The title under the codename OVR would be the first Ghost Recon title in several years.
The project was reportedly headed up by Patrick Redding (creative director on Gotham Knights) and Fabian Lhéraud (long-time producer at Ubisoft Montreal), who both mention working on an unannounced project on their respective LinkedIn profiles.
When asked for comment, a Ubisoft spokesperson responded to IGN but didn't directly address the cancellation of the project.
