Leak Suggests Halo Studios Plans On Chasing The Extraction Shooter Trend

Halo will revisit its roots this year via the release of Campaign Evolved. However, the future of the series remains uncertain. It's believed Halo Infinite was eventually going to have a battle royale mode. Now it seems those plans have been scrapped as Halo Studios tries to find a spot on the overcrowded extraction shooter bandwagon instead.

Claims that Halo Studios may have pivoted from a battle royale to an extraction shooter were outlined in the latest video from Rebs Gaming (via Windows Central), a typically reliable source when it comes to inside information regarding the Halo games. Rebs further suggests that the BR mode rumored to be coming to Infinite was indeed real, building on the pretty concrete evidence shared by former Halo game director, Mike Clopper.

Rebs claims the decision to stop trying to shoehorn a BR mode into the Infinite experience was made in 2022, so only a year after the latest Halo game was released. It's believed the decision was made because developers agreed that repeated attempts to make the mode feel right weren't landing, but also because the BR space had become oversaturated.
