If you've ever wanted a single-player version of Final Fantasy XIV, you're not alone. I've got friends who are always asking me if it's going to happen. The reality is that each expansion is in many ways its own game, a full-fledged sequel, and I'm not sure even the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy team could crank out a game with more than "just" A Realm Reborn and Heavensward in under four years. Plus, well, they're not really the team to do it, right? That'd be the FFXIV team themselves.

And that's why it's never happened. As Naoki Yoshida, long-running director and producer, mused when answering a question at this weekend's Fan Festival, the group at Square Enix that's best-suited to the task... is constantly busy making further content for Final Fantasy XIV.
