You've probably seen those side-by-side clips of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's parkour making the rounds on social media, with people moaning about how much worse the remake looks. Even if movement has felt a bit more stilted in recent games, losing the fluidity that Ubisoft perfected in Unity, it's being blown completely out of proportion: it hardly warrants the funeral chimes that have been rung out across the internet over the last week.

The goal for the devs was to keep movement as accurate to the original as possible, with a few slight tweaks drawing from lessons learned over the years. "From the start, the intention was clear: deliver a faithful and enriched experience grounded in what players love," game director Richard Knight said in an interview with GamesRadar+, breaking down the studio's approach to parkour and movement in the remake.

"We have rebuilt the entire adventure using our latest Anvil Engine [...] Movement now flows more naturally from one action to the next, whether you're doing parkour across rooftops in Havana or fighting on the docks, he continued. "Parkour builds on the latest design improvements from recent Assassin's Creed games, while keeping Edward's classic moves."
