Final Fantasy 14's 2026 North American Fan Festival has gone rather well overall, wouldn't you say? The expected announcement of the long-running MMO's next big expansion delivered in spades, with Evercold. A Neon Genesis Evangelion collaboration for the next series of Alliance Raids, while undeniably odd, has certainly gotten folks hyped. FF14's coming to Nintendo Switch 2, albeit with a caveat; and we've been given ample heads-up as to when the PlayStation 4 version will inevitably be shut down.
One beat that's not playing quite so well? A couple of awkward moments at a music-related panel, titled "From Tacos to Tenders: Serving up the Lyrics of FFXIV." What went wrong? Generative AI, of course. But was beloved Square Enix translator Michael-Christopher Koji Fox truly setting the world on fire here, as some have claimed? Or was he aiming for a pair of AI-apathetic punchlines? I lean toward the latter.
The first "blunder" kicked off when Koji Fox tasked—urgh—"Copilot-kun" to create a sample music video, complete with a "lalafell" for AI slop. That lalafell is, indeed, the feature image for this article, because a.) how could it not be; b.) I'm so sorry....
