Crimson Desert is a pretty massive game. It's designed to be a sandbox that players can explore whenever and however they like, and on that front, it largely succeeds. The thing it definitely isn't is a masterpiece of storytelling, and thanks to reports of apparent internal arguments and unrest regarding the game's narrative, it never really was going to be.
That's probably why you've actually heard barely any discussion about the game's story online, and why so many people were lingering around the game's starting area so long after launch. That being said, you'd have expected some people to start moving through the story quite naturally by now, but if you have been, you're actually in the minority.
First reported by PC Gamer, it seems as though Crimson Desert players on Steam aren't too bothered about going through the game's story, as only a little over 20 percent of players have the achievement for reaching Chapter 7, the game's halfway mark. This is also despite Crimson Desert having a better player retention rate than Elden Ring.
