Far Cry's Official Return And New Setting Splits Gamers

Far Cry's TV adaptation is already raising some eyebrows. Based on the video game series of the same name, the anthology TV series is currently in development at FX with creators Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney. We don't know much about it yet, other than the recent announcement that it'll tell an original story instead of adapting one of the games.

However, fans are already taking issue with the TV series' approach to adaptation, particularly its attitude towards the source material. It's a tale as old as time when it comes to video game adaptations, but it still doesn't bode well for the future of Far Cry.

In an interview with Deadline (spotted by DiscussingFilm on X), co-creator Hawley is quoted as saying, "When you play a video game, you only really move forward through the gameplay section, and then you have these cut scenes that you can skip, so when you go to adapt those games you have to be aware that makes the human drama kind of irrelevant to the storyline."
