Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on Nintendo Switch 2 fairly soon. How soon? June 3. Is there a demo out? There sure is, as of just a couple of days ago. How's it run? I haven't had a chance to check it out firsthand just yet, but from what I'm hearing? Fairly well! It seems the wizards at Square Enix have pulled it off again after delivering a largely satisfying port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake back in January.
Of course, compromises have been made along the way. As it happens, it's not just decreased foliage density and the like; NPC houses are curiously devoid of art assets relative to PlayStation 5 and PC, which, while hardly deal-breaking, has prompted some fairly amusing screenshots to surface as folks get their hands on the demo.
As media personality Jon Cartwright notes above, "Cloud got hungry on Switch 2." Not words I expected to type in relation to FF7 Rebirth's Switch 2 port—or ever, really—but here we are. Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi and his hard-working team of tech wizards have made an interesting decision in order to facilitate a smoother-running game: robbing houses, basically, of half the stuff they've got....
