Garry's Mod Creator's New Game Is Facing A Deluge Of AI Slop Content

It's been 20 years since Garry's Mod lit up the PC gaming scene. Back then, the notion of creating your own world on your own terms was rather novel, and the sustained success of the permanent-ten-buck title helped to pave the way for titans of the gaming scene like Minecraft and eventually Roblox.

Creator Garry Newman finally released his follow-up, S&box, and through little to no fault of his own, it's being flooded with AI slop. It's ensloppification; a real slop-dinger. And it's affecting S&box's Steam review score, which presently sits at "Mixed." Newman intends to fight back.

In a statement to publication Rock Paper Shotgun regarding the presently AI-infested state of S&box, Newman notes that "low quality, obvious AI-created slop is going to be a growing problem in every creative outlet." And, honestly, fair. When you put out a 2026 successor to Garry's Mod, though, you're sadly going to be facing that kind of thing in spades; it's a player-creation toolkit, a wonderland for creativity... and a hotbed for quick-and-dirty AI lameness.
