Before Your Eyes and Goodnight Universe publisher (not to mention Invincible VS developer) Skybound Games has announced that it's exiting the publishing sphere, choosing instead to focus on its own IPs.
In a conversation with The Game Business' Christopher Dring, Skybound's Jon Goldman says that the studio has "learned a lot in indie publishing", but that it's time to be "smarter" about the games it brings to market. The studio will be spending its resources on its own IPs henceforth, Goldman says.
Fellow Skybound head David Alpert says the studio was able to "find some interesting opportunities" in the third-party publishing space, but that bringing brand new IPs into the market in this day and age, while "completely possible", is also "really hard".
Goldman says that Invincible VS, the upcoming fighting game from Skybound and newly-minted internal dev team Quarter Up, "has to be something [Skybound's] fans love and [the team is] really proud of", and it's not always possible to achieve that by "offloading [the project] to someone else".
