Nintendo Just Randomly Updated Super Mario Galaxy 2 With A Huge Lore Drop

It's been more than half a year since Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 were ported to the Nintendo Switch. The two classics were released just in time for Nintendo to start ramping up its marketing for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, giving Nintendo Switch owners the chance to play the games on a new platform.

Now that the Mario Galaxy Movie is out worldwide, following its later release in Japan, Nintendo has released a new update for Super Mario Galaxy 2, with a brand new storybook entry providing a slightly ambiguous lore drop.

Nintendo has been on a bit of a hot streak when it comes to dropping random updates for its older titles. Following the huge 3.0 update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the company released another surprise patch with a 25th anniversary celebration gift. Now, Super Mario Galaxy 2 has received an update, completely out of the blue.

"A new story has been added to the storybook. Once 'Final Chapter' is available in the storybook, you can read the new story by clearing any galaxy and earning a Power Star," reads the bullet point in Nintendo's official patch notes.
