Subnautica 2 is launching in early access on May 14. This comes after a bitter legal battle between lead Subnautica devs and the game's publisher, Krafton.
The news was revealed alongside a cinematic trailer, setting up the tone and setting for Subnautica 2. While there's no gameplay to be had here, we now know that we'll be playing it ourselves in just two weeks time, available on both PC and Xbox.
Now, when I say that Krafton isn't mentioned anywhere, I really do mean, anywhere. They're not mentioned in the small print in the trailer, or in the video's description. They've also been removed as the publisher on all storefronts, with Unknown Worlds down as both the developer and publisher.
Even a press release sent out to outlets like ours has absolutely no mention of Krafton - but does include quotes from Ted Gill, the once-ousted CEO, who seems to have returned to work.
"We’re excited for players to experience Subnautica 2, beginning May 14th!" Gill says. "Our team cannot wait to hear your feedback as the game evolves throughout Early Access."
