Final Fantasy 14 has been going for a whopping 13 years, or even 16 years if you count the game's 1.0 release, and the man behind almost everything has been Noaki Yoshida, also affectionately known as Yoshi-P. You could very easily argue that Final Fantasy 14 would have remained a disaster without his guidance, and now, he's one of the most important people at Square Enix.
Final Fantasy 14 without Yoshi-P would feel inherently wrong at this point, but due to the slow march of time, the two will part ways at some point. That could be due to something as simple as Yoshi-P's retirement, or as tragic as his death, but the fact of the matter is that there will be a world in which Final Fantasy 14 has to go on without him.
This is apparently something that Yoshi-P himself is keenly aware of, as he was asked during a Q & A panel during the most recent FanFest in California, Anaheim where exactly he sees the game being in 10 years, and what his ultimate goal would be to achieve.
