Sony has put paid to rumors that PlayStation games will now require an online check-in every 30 days if you want to continue playing them, and it's weighed in by confirming that the rumors are not true.
Speaking to The Game File's Stephen Totilo, a spokesperson said that a "one-time online check" is required after you buy a game on PlayStation, but that "no further check-ins are needed" once that check has been performed.
So, where did the rumor come from? Well, as Totilo points out, it appears to have originated (at least in terms of the spread of the rumor) with Lance McDonald, whose name you might recognize from his unofficial 60fps Bloodborne patch. He's also a pretty active member of that game's modding community in general.
McDonald posted an image showing a "remaining time" counter of 20 days on the game Don't Starve Together, as well as fields named Valid Period (Start) and Valid Period (End), the former of which was empty while the latter showed a date of May 14th.
Rumors then began to spread, exacerbated by a pretty dubious-looking message supposedly from PlayStation's support department, that a check would be performed...
