Subnautica 2 Is Launching With An Unfinished Story

After months of drama, which included a fired leadership team, tens of millions of dollars in unpaid bonuses, and a major lawsuit, Subnautica 2 has an early access release date, with the game becoming available on May 14.

The game's creators, Unknown Worlds, have admitted that the early access period could last as long as three years, with lots of work still needing to be done on the game. And for those looking to purchase it on May 14 and blast through the game's campaign, I have bad news: it won't be close to finished, as its development team is waiting for player feedback before closing out the campaign.

Early access is "built into the DNA of the studio," game design lead Anthony Gallegos told our friends over at Polygon in a recent interview. “Every single game that we've put out has been into early access in various degrees of polish,” he continued, referring to the two previous Subnautica titles, Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero.
