Crimson Desert and Black Desert Online studio Pearl Abyss has sold off Eve Online's CCP Games for around $120m, citing a need to "improve financial structure and increase management efficiency".
The deal, which is earmarked for next week, was reported by Korean news platform The Chosun Daily. The buyer is none other than CCP CEO Hilma Patterson, so this is a management buyout rather than a transfer to another corporate owner.
Pearl Abyss says that it considered a number of options for CCP Games, but determined that "selling to the current management would be beneficial for both companies". The two may still collaborate after the sale, according to the Crimson Desert developer.
Pearl Abyss may be selling off CCP, but that doesn't mean the former is having a bad year; far from it, in fact. The studio's most recent release, open-world action RPG Crimson Desert, sold five million copies within its first month on sale, and naturally, it's receiving major updates on a regular basis as well.
As for Eve Online, it's still routinely attracting around 5,000 players per day at its peak on Steam, but CCP's other efforts in the development sphere haven't exactly met with resounding...
