The use of generative artificial intelligence has become a boogeyman for the gaming community, with beloved studios such as Larian courting negative reception for even implying it might experiment with the technology.
That being said, many studios have now begun using gen AI for production. Though the inclusion of generated assets in the final game remains extremely controversial, studios aren't shying away from speeding up production using the technology.
In a recent earnings call, two of Sony's top executives outlined the company's approach to using AI, and specifically mentioned game development as a viable use case (via Variety).
"AI is a powerful tool, but it is not a replacement for artists or creators. It is an amplifier of human imagination and catalyst for new possibilities," said Hiroki Totoki, Sony Group president and CEO.
Totoki then invited president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hideaki Nishino, to speak about PlayStation would be utilising artificial intelligence going forward.
