Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has just set a new concurrent player count record for the whole series on Steam, while also topping the Switch eShop charts.
Yesterday saw the launch of the first new Castlevania game in over a decade with the excellent Belmont’s Curse. I loved my time with Evil Empire’s fresh but respectful take on the series’ exploration era, although it’s fair to say that not everyone is feeling the same, especially if you’re playing it through Steam.
As we reported yesterday, Belmont’s Curse is a bit of a mess on PC, just like the free demo was. Surprisingly, those issues don’t seem to be slowing the game down all that much, as its impressive early player count has set a new record for the series as a whole, and isn’t even the only place it’s seeing success.
According to SteamDB’s charts, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse managed a concurrent player record of 18,261 players on its launch day, which could even increase over the weekend. Even if it stays at 18,000, it’s easily a new peak for the series, as the second-highest is Lords of Shadow 2 at under 4,000 concurrent players.
