DualShockers's Reviews

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is, without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite title of the holiday season.

8.5 / 10.0 - Tales of Hearts R
Nov 20, 2014

Tales of Hearts R doesn’t have the most original story and the characters are mostly well-meaning but occasionally stereotypical. The game’s localization feels a bit lacking without an English dub as well, considering the amount of work that was clearly poured into the translation. However, the beautifully remade visuals, stellar combat and development system and on-point voice acting more than compensate for the admittedly superficial shortcomings. If you own a PS Vita and are on the lookout for a great new game to add to your library, Bandai Namco has a lovely polished gem for you to purchase.

8.5 / 10.0 - Far Cry 4
Nov 17, 2014

In taking players high into the mountains, Far Cry 4 often reaches even higher and very nearly touches the skies above it — it's only in a few areas that its ambition slightly avoids its grasp. Despite its weaker aspects in story and characters, it keeps players coming back to Kyrat.

6.5 / 10.0 - WWE 2K15
Nov 17, 2014

By this time, real fans of WWE have already picked up this game or will probably do so by the holidays. And I wouldn't knock them for it. For anyone else on the fence who may not have the same level of investment in the WWE product, recommending this game is a lot more difficult.

The best part about Dragon Age is how you take complete ownership of this world you've invested so much time in. For better or worse, you made this happen with your decisions and it shows. This might be the epic fantasy RPG you've been waiting a good long while for. Hell, it may just be the Dragon Age game you've finally been waiting for.

5.5 / 10.0 - Escape Dead Island
Nov 17, 2014

Escape Dead Island completely ignores what makes a Dead Island game fun: there's no sense of dread and the highly enjoyable crafting system is nowhere to be seen. Hell, there's not even a co-op option. What we do have is a boring linear experience with one-dimensional characters and rickety combat.

Arno's Paris is a modern marvel of the gaming world, and while its structure isn't flawless, I can't say I regret the time I lived in it.

Hopefully the next Sonic title can be as great as Sonic Colors or Sonic Generations, or even as decent as Sonic Lost Worlds, but coming from former Naughty Dog members, this was definitely a letdown.

As mentioned earlier, this is the best fan service (on any console) that I have seen. If you're feeling nostalgic, the purchase is a no-brainer. If you want a piece of gaming history, same rule applies. Master Chief has returned to Xbox and he's better than ever.

[W]hile it sets its sails to head into uncharted waters for the series narratively, the game's journey back into the established trail more often makes the title feel like a familiar journey than an exciting new venture. By flipping things around into the eyes of the enemy, Rogue presents us with a new perspective on a centuries-long conflict — the problem is that everything else we've seen before.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare breathes new life back into the franchise with a greatly rewarding progression system and fantastic take on player movement. The fun but painfully predictable story glens some enjoyment courtesy of Kevin Spacey's ability to be an awesome jerk in any role that he plays.

If this is what the apocalypse has in store for us then count me in.

All-in-all, you can't go wrong with Civilization: Beyond Earth if you love the franchise. Affinities and new units give it enough spice to distract you for awhile, but I did find myself desiring to simply load up Civilization V the more I played for its greater depth.

10 / 10.0 - Bayonetta 2
Oct 23, 2014

This is one of the rare games that balances appeal to both genre newcomers and hardcore action game heads, without sacrificing anything for it. Bayonetta 2 proves to be one of the — if not the — greatest action games and should not be missed under any circumstances, despite any reservations on the titular character's design choice.

8.5 / 10.0 - Samurai Warriors 4
Oct 20, 2014

Overall, Samurai Warriors 4 is one of the best Musou titles that Omega Force has made so far. While the game sometimes can get repetitive, especially with the similar objectives, it's still pretty fun to slay giant groups of enemies coming your way.

7.5 / 10.0 - The Evil Within
Oct 13, 2014

While this may not be the scariest game you will have played, it will probably be up there in terms of suspense as it definitely provides an ample amount of it throughout its entire play through. It is a game with evident flaws, but not enough of them that it will deprive you of the solid, survival horror-filled entertainment.

It's another wacky, wonderful adventure in the world of Borderlands, and though this title may take us to somewhere new and unseen, there are still a few sights that may be a bit familiar to fans — though don't let that stop you from taking a trip to the moon.

8.5 / 10.0 - Driveclub
Oct 7, 2014

Driveclub isn't a perfect game, but it's most certainly one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) game ever released on consoles, also featuring one of the tightest, most fun and stimulating driving models you'll find on the market. It definitely succeeds where it counts, but it's a bit lacking in the frills department.

8 / 10.0 - NBA 2K15

All in all, NBA 2K continues to dominate the basketball market. However, it may need a true competitor to really push the limits of what it can offer the player in terms of quality.

7 / 10.0 - Alien: Isolation
Oct 7, 2014

If you are an Alien fan like me and find yourself immersed throughout most of the game, you will surely find a lot to love, but for others coming for a new game experience they will find a game that mainly forces you to move slowly from point to point with little reward.
