9 / 10.0 - Gears 5
Sep 4, 2019

Gears 5 is one of Microsoft's best games this console generation. It's a package that's brimming with content, and has top-notch stuff on offer for you no matter what you're looking for. With its campaign, it successfully revitalizes a franchise may had feared was becoming stale, while with its online component, it continues to be on the top of its game, the way the series always been since the day it was born.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has everything that a fan could possibly want - challenging monsters, tons of new weapons and armor, an incredibly in-depth combat system with even more nuance thanks to new moves and mechanics, and a boat-load of new quests. The typical annoyances remain but don't let that stop you from undertaking this icy exodus.

8 / 10.0 - WRC 8
Sep 4, 2019

Despite a few disappointing presentation issues. WRC 8 is an otherwise solid outing for the franchise. Improvements to car handling and physics set WRC 8 well above its predecessor, and the new career mode is a hugely appreciated addition for anyone looking to get the most out of a simulation racer.

9 / 10.0 - Astral Chain
Sep 2, 2019

Astral Chain constantly impresses with its enthralling premise, frenetic action, and abundance of content. Even in its quietest moments, it exudes heart and intrigue, and for those willing to dig deeper, The Ark and its mysteries are a joy to discover. Beautiful visuals and incredible presentation values round things out to make it one of the Switch's must-own titles.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered still has many of the same design flaws as the original release, but new visuals and gameplay tweaks make this the best version of a beloved classic.

4 / 10.0 - Decay of Logos
Aug 28, 2019

In its quest to mimic other successful franchises, Amplify Creations has created the Frankenstein of video games. Decay of Logos is an unbalanced, unresponsive mess with little soul to pick up the slack. There are far too many better alternatives to waste any time with this fundamentally broken adventure.

9 / 10.0 - Control
Aug 26, 2019

Remedy Entertainment is a studio with a storied history, so to say that they're at their absolute best here is no slight praise, and it's not praise that's easily given- but Control is just that good. Whether it's a story you're looking for, or engaging gameplay with mechanical depth, Control has more than enough up its sleeve to keep you rigorously engaged from start to finish.

Remnant: From The Ashes is a game with a terrible title and extremely derivative design, but good gunplay, solid co-op play, and smart randomization means it's still fun, if not original, solo or with friends.

There's a certain "so bad it's good" charm to Metal Wolf Chaos XD, but unless that's explicitly what you set out to find, there's not much for you here.

Despite concerns with the shift in setting, Age of Wonders: Planetfall presents a fun, 4X-style turn-based strategy experience. It's already stellar combat is bolstered by some solid diplomatic options, excellent race design and well-designed environments.

There is some fun to be had piloting the robots in Cyberpilot, but the mission brevity and padding really dampens the experience and steals away control right as you're settling into a groove. There are worse ways to spend a few hours of your day, but there are much better ones too.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is very clearly not Wolfenstein 3, and you shouldn't expect it to be. It's a side-story before the final chapter in MachineGames Wolf saga, and for what it is, it's a lot of fun. It doesn't succeed at everything it does – the RPG mechanics in particular feel tacked on and needless – but its open-ended nature and excellent level design still make it a really good Nazi-slaying time.

8 / 10.0 - Madden NFL 20
Jul 28, 2019

Madden NFL 20 doesn't reinvent the wheel, but the X-factor and Superstar system, combined with Face of the Franchise and a number of smart additions to Franchise and Ultimate Team make it a winner, despite its ongoing bugs and glitches.

9 / 10.0 - Blazing Chrome

6 / 10.0 - Sea of Solitude
Jul 11, 2019

Sea of Solitude isn't a bad game, but it's one that could've been far more profound if it handled its delicate subject matter with more care. There's an engaging story to be told, but all of its compelling narrative ideas are constantly undermined by its cringe-inducing voice acting and bad dialogue. Meanwhile, gameplay suffers from a general lack of things to do or discover in its beautiful world, leaving players with a sense of fatigue as the game wears on.
