7 / 10 - Asura
Apr 14, 2017

All in all, Asura is a promising debut from Hyderabad-based Ogre Head Studio. Stellar combat and a generous amount of variety make this worth checking out even if you have a passing interest in the genre.

8 / 10 - Yooka Laylee
Apr 4, 2017

Playtonic's adherence to the playbook of its past successes works well in Yooka-Laylee. Some minor quirks notwithstanding, it's proof that game design that's almost two decades old still works as well as some of the more avant garde, open-world fare that we've seen of late. If you're hankering for a slice of colourful, high-definition infused retro goodness, look no further.

Overall though, the ex-LucasArts game veterans have created an appealing, and effective love letter to the movement they started back in the day. If you loved growing up with those titles, your decision has most likely already been made. For everyone else, Thimbleweed Park's darkly humorous and self-referential approach, in combination with its oddball bunch of characters – everyone will have a different favourite – makes it an adventure well-worth pointing your cursor at.

10 / 10 - Persona 5
Mar 29, 2017

If you own a PS3 or PS4, you owe it to yourself to play Persona 5. From its presentation to gameplay systems and its many plot twists, there isn't quite anything like it on current or last generation consoles. It's a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike.

There are several annoyances with the game, but, overall, BioWare has delivered yet another stellar role-playing experience with a fascinating story to boot.

6 / 10 - Lego Worlds
Mar 20, 2017

The game still has a fair few bugs and an awkward story-based progression mechanism, concerns that should have been ironed out with its retail release. This game is essentially about building Lego wonders and we enjoyed it the most when we totally ignored the storyline. But if that's the kind of experience you're looking for, Minecraft is still the more polished alternative.

If you need a decent party game on the Nintendo Switch, it's worth considering Just Dance 2017.

Link's latest adventure isn't without its wrinkles thanks to unnecessary padding, an annoying durability system, and odd difficulty. In the face of the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, The Witcher 3, and even Final Fantasy XV, it comes off a bit short.

It's a solid effort from Ubisoft. There's something for everyone and while it rarely excels at all of them, it manages to be a surprisingly engaging game. The overarching structure is overwrought and its fiction is one-sided but that means little when you're crashing helicopters into unsuspecting cartel outposts while your friends detonate copious amounts of explosives.

By genre, you could say that Nier: Automata is an action role-playing game. But the reality is that it's a whole lot more.

7 / 10 - For Honor
Feb 17, 2017

For Honor is a truly engaging experience when you're out on the battlefield, and playing mind-games with your opponents. It goes beyond its contemporaries by adding depth to combat in a way that feels true to reality. But all of its niceties threaten to be overshadowed by the poor taste of the non-playable elements, which seem to be becoming a bit of norm with top-tier video games.

8 / 10 - Halo Wars 2
Feb 16, 2017

With a single-player campaign lasting around 15 hours, and multiplayer to follow, Halo Wars 2 is yet another solid entry in the franchise. Its minor problems do little to make this worth checking out for fans and newcomers alike.

With over 30 hours of gameplay time, and an intriguing online component, Gravity Rush 2 is a marked improvement over its competent predecessor. 2017 has seen an abundance of great games on the PS4. Gravity Rush 2 joins the roster of Nioh and Yakuza 0 as stellar exclusives for Sony, and is well worth picking up, whether you've played the first game or not.

8 / 10 - Nioh
Feb 2, 2017

On the surface, Nioh is a compelling take on a sub genre of role-playing games created by the Souls games and its ilk. However by putting stamina at the core of its combat and thoughtfully borrowing mechanics from other titles, it results in a game that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Whether you’re a Souls veteran or have a passing interest in such games, Nioh is well worth checking out.

10 / 10 - Yakuza 0
Jan 19, 2017

Yakuza 0 is an easy recommendation for PS4 and PS4 Pro owners alike. A strong story, activities aplenty, and solid core combat, it’s the perfect start to gaming in 2017. Essential for PS4 owners and for the rest, a perfect reason to get one.

6 / 10 - Steep
Dec 29, 2016

Steep is only worth bothering with if you’re really itching for some extreme sports flavoured gaming on the PS4, Xbox One, or PC. For everyone else, your patience might be rewarded with a better (and likely cheaper) game months later.

If you are going to be playing Don Bradman Cricket 17, you'll do so because it's a genuinely challenging cricket game. There are plenty of game modes to keep you engaged. You can start a player's career and defend like your life depends on it in a test match or start a five-over game and try to smash every ball for a six. There's enough variety here to keep you hooked for quite some time.
