Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx is a game that targets children, however it lacks the polish of other games and as a result becomes quite repetitive and frustrating which mirrored the opinion of my kids. In the end, this game based on the popular TV series could have been a far more superior experience. Just because a game targets children doesn't mean it needs to be mediocre.

It's bigger, bolder and Goat Simulator is truly weird @#$… but it's probably the most original game of the year and really fun to play!

Over all, quirks and all, I really like Police Simulator: Patrol Officers… it does play like the lawful side of Grand Theft Auto and that's a refreshing change! Grab it so you can shout "I am the law!"

Somerville is a true "short and sweet" gaming experience that really throws a spanner into traditional storytelling and gaming.

Another reboot, possibly the last yearly CoD instalment. Will it keep us entertained for longer than a year? We hope so!

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a perfect game through and through. The level design is amazing, the story is charming, and the score is fantastic. I know I mentioned this before in the intro, but even though this is a rerelease, I'd say this is my game of the year so far. Genuinely perfect in every way.

Overall Warhammer 40K Shootas, Blood and Teef is a very enjoyable romp, if you want a good solid game to get someone into the series I don't think you can go wrong with suggesting this title.

4.6 / 5.0 - Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 3 is a generational title, and easily the best of the series. It's originality, execution, and overall fun factor make this a must-buy for Switch owners. Bayonetta fans old and new will adore this masterpiece.

3.4 / 5.0 - NHL 23
Oct 27, 2022

NHL 23 is NHL 22 with but some presentation polish and international women's teams. It stands as the most obvious current example on next gen of why some sport titles may be better served updated versus re-released when so little new. NHL superfans will no doubt purchase without a thought due to roster updates. Casual ones should consider staying put or at a reduced price. The accompanying review score is a reflection of this reality, as ratings take into account changes – or lack thereof – from NHL 22.

It is still hard to believe the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom and the Rabbids can live so harmoniously in the same game, but much like its predecessor, Sparks of Hope defies all expectations and provides a constantly delightful and rewarding experience on all fronts. Armed with delicious combat, swelling music tracks, and overflowing charm and hilarity, Sparks of Hope is one of the finest games of the year.

Squad 51 vs. the Flying Saucers is honestly pretty great. You can just tell this game was made with love, and it shows. Between the unique FMV approach to Shmups, and it just being an overall good game, I'd say give it a go, even if the price point is a little bit much.

This game is jam packed filled with content and is a terrific sim if you're keen on those types of games. It's also a great learning tool for those who are looking to get into PC building or those who just love PC building already.

Overall, while there is some fun to be had in the game and a narrative that's genuinely interesting albeit flawed, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is too filled with issues to be anything worthy of being recommended to those who aren't hardcore fans of the series, and the Switch port, unfortunately, still has a lot of the existing issues seen in other platforms. As a result, I'd suggest a different, better-optimized game to play for those interested in delving into the virtual world of Sword Art Online.

3.9 / 5.0 - Gotham Knights
Oct 20, 2022

Gotham Knights is a beautiful game that tells an amazing story. Fans of Batman and Arkham Knights will definitely like what they see. Still, the game's over-reliance on grapple and grind can wear thin, even with a terrific nightly progression system that advances main and side missions wonderfully. Final judgment should be reserved for robust multiplayer inclusion, however.
