Unscored - Planet Coaster 2
Nov 24, 2024

Is Planet Coaster 2 going to replace the original as my go-to park builder just yet? No, but it almost definitely will in the future. It’s early days, and to discredit the work that Frontier has put into Planet Coaster 2 would do them a huge disservice – there simply aren’t any other studios out there that push out such quality games. It’s still a way off becoming the ultimate theme park builder, but if other Frontier titles are to go by, give it a little time (and a little polish) and Planet Coaster 2 will undoubtedly be the sandbox my dreams.

Although there is a little bit of grinding and the graphics can appear simple at times, there is enough content to motivate them and more importantly find enjoyment as they explore Singapore in order to stop the mayhem.

An original and compelling experience. No other game gives you so much excitement when opening the door.

4 / 5.0 - Tetris Forever
Nov 21, 2024

The documentary footage is very interesting and if you think of the game as being kind of an interactive documentary/museum display that might be the best way to look at it. If you are looking at the collection as a way to collect all the variations of Tetris that have been released then you will be disappointed. It is a pretty hefty price for the somewhat limited number of Tetris games available (I mean there are a few here… but the difference between them is not huge and there are some stand out titles missing)… so perhaps wait for a sale? Good to grab for the history of Tetris and if you are happy to have a playable documentary then you should be happy.

As awkward as a game that Mario & Luigi: Brothership can be, you can't beat the entertainment you will have with it. The turtle-paced progression, quick gameplay gimmicks, and unwieldy concise worldbuilding can be disheartening, but when a game is fun…a game is fun! The extremely rewarding combat and layers of strategy is a blast. The graphics are impressive, the soundtrack is outstanding, and the moments where Luigi gets to shine are indubitably adorable. Anchors aweigh and cast off into the grand voyages of high-spirited and loquacious antics in Mario & Luigi: Brothership!

LEGO Horizon Adventures is an excellent entry into both the LEGO and Horizon franchises. It adds enough new mechanics to the formula to make it feel like it's a part of both series, rather than one wearing the clothes of the other.

Altogether, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is a return to form for a franchise that has struggled to regain its footing over the past several years. This is a strong entry in the franchise and deserves your full attention. Black Ops 6 certainly doesn't have the best campaign or multiplayer in the franchise, but it does what Call of Duty does best, and is thus in the upper echelon of the series. Now go raise hell in the Persian Gulf and nab those juicy killstreak combo medals to rejoice in Call of Duty returning into the book of good graces.

If you are a Sonic fan, this is a great collection of some classic levels with enhancements to bring them into the modern gaming age. With the addition of the Shadow campaign there's plenty of gameplay to be had. If you are new to the Sonic series, this is a great way to get a taste of different iterations and to learn a bit about the backstory of some of the characters. A great bit of fun and a stunning update on some familiar levels.

Broken Sword - Shadows of the Templar: Reforged is a great introduction to a classic point and adventure, or a lovingly recreated remaster for hardcore fans

Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my favourite games of the eighth console generation, and this new remaster only improves it further. Many of the changes present may seem subtle at first, and a lot of them are, but when compared to the original side-by-side, some of the changes are substantial, making this the definitive way to experience the game.

I quite like the approach of playing a human existing in this world of monstrous beasts. The sense of scale can be quite impressive and certainly makes you wonder just what it would indeed be like if these creatures existed. The general gameplay is fun enough, jumping about and breaking through walls to reach new areas. Combat is challenging enough but not too hard and even the frustrating monster events aren't so long that they are insurmountable. A decent bit of fun for a pretty reasonable price.

I seriously enjoyed my time (and still am) in the world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and it is easily in my top three games of 2024. BioWare have done a wonderful job at revisiting this franchise from its engaging narrative, realistic characters and gameplay that takes RPG to a whole new realm. With next-gen graphics, superb audio, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is gunning for game of the year!

3.9 / 5.0 - Vendetta Forever
Nov 8, 2024

Vendetta Forever is a unique VR experience in which each enemy is delicately placed and each level is set like a chessboard. The cinematic action and wild variety of scenarios and possibilities encourages arcade veterans to replay each level to get the perfect score and utmost equilibrium between muscle memory and strategic thinking.

2.8 / 5.0 - Pneumata
Nov 6, 2024

Pneumata tells an interesting story with atmospheric visuals. However, technical issues made the title so frustrating that I was fighting the urge to uninstall it before completing it. Thankfully, the game is relatively short – its completion takes no more than several hours, including your constantly getting lost there. It's not a bad horror – it just needs more work.

Still, just like the Metal Slug franchise in general, Tactics is ultimately stacked with a silly joy that's hard to deny. Getting to see fan favourites together again will give long-term fans plenty of reason to pick this up, and fans of difficult tactical titles will have enough to get their teeth stuck into. Some things may work better than others, but there's always room for a good strategy game, and Metal Slug Tactics is easily up there with the best in recent memory.

4.5 / 5.0 - Empire of the Ants
Nov 6, 2024

If you pick up Empire of Ants for any reason, it shouldn't be the obvious one. Of course, it's gorgeous, and perhaps one of the most visually stunning games I've ever played, but there's a simple charm to its gameplay and overall worldbuilding that deserves to be experienced by as wide an audience as possible. Whether leading a charge of warriors into battle or simply standing on an abandoned bottle and watching your colony do its thing, there's something so special about Empire of Ants that makes it an absolute joy to experience.
