Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is another solid entry in the yearly franchise that really freshens up things. The campaign is excellent with Spec-ops being a viable alternative to the Zombies mode from the previous game. The multiplayer however is frustrating to play for series veterans like me who buy the game each year for the multiplayer.

Luigi's Mansion 3 is highly enjoyable and one of the best adventure games available on the Nintendo Switch. It is full of intricate level design, diverse boss fights, and a co-op mode that is the perfect gift for parents looking to spend some time with their kids.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint is such a letdown, especially after the enjoyable Wildlands. It is hard to understand why Ubisoft made such controversial design decisions regarding this new game but it is without a doubt one of the biggest disappointments of this year.

7.5 / 10.0 - Code Vein
Oct 2, 2019

It can be termed as Anime Souls but Code Vein is far from it. This feels like more of an attempt to bring the same gameplay experience but without the polish and detail that From Software is known for in their games. As a result, Code Vein is a decent albeit flawed action RPG that doesn't bring anything exciting to the genre.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening brings back the charm of classic 2D Zelda games with a modern touch. It is arguably one of the better old school Zelda games for newcomers to dip their toes in since the upgrade to the visual design has made it a great looking game. This does come at the cost of performance.

It is not every day that we see a JRPG like Ni No Kuni Remastered. It is crafted to perfection from the talented Studio Ghibli and molded into a video game by Level 5. The story, art style, and character development are the highlight of the game while combat being the only weak link.

NBA 2K20 is no doubt the best option available if you want to play a good basketball game, but again there aren't many basketball games available in the market.

AI: The Somnium Files is another bizarre but interesting murder mystery from the mind of Kotaro Uchikoshi. It is a refreshing take on the genre that has memorable characters embroiled in a story with many twists and unique gameplay elements.

8 / 10 - Torchlight II
Sep 23, 2019

Torchlight 2 is a quality port that took time in making its way to consoles. It feels like a little too late now, but this doesn't mean it is not a good action RPG. Those who are on the lookout for something new that can satisfy their Diablo thirst can have a good time with this sequel.

Monster Hunter World was already a great game but with Iceborne, Capcom has made it even better. It is easily one of the best expansions released for a game this generation and worthy enough to be considered on its own.

Going all the way back to the golden age of JRPGs, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is one of the more admirable efforts by Square Enix to bring their classic games lineup to a modern platform. Minor issues aside, it is not a bad way to experience this gem.

While it lacks the scare factor, the concept of a horror anthology series with co-op multiplayer is pretty unique and executed in a great way. The writing is rather weak for this first entry but the gameplay with its branching narrative offers sufficient replay value.

7 / 10.0 - Oninaki

Oninaki fails to present its story in a meaningful manner, but the combat system has its moments. The overall quality of the game is held back due to its repetitiveness and ideas that fail to materialize properly.

Control is a fascinating insight into what a developer like Remedy Entertainment can pull off based on their experience in creating cinematic story games mixed with action gameplay. It ranks among one of their best works released so far.

Remnant: From the Ashes has enough individuality that it stands on its own feet with the ideas it inherits from the Dark Souls series while giving its unique twist to some of them. It has its flaws, but don't let that distract you from an otherwise great game.

KILL la KILL - IF is a fun brawler designed to appeal to those who are still a fan of the series. If you want to play a game that is based on the anime, this one nails the art style but the lack of customization and depth for the fighting system diminishes its overall value.
