Death's Gambit is an outstanding and challenging 2D action RPG Metroidvania that has finally been released on PlayStation 4. It's been over three years since the game was announced as a PS4 release, and I'm happy to say that the wait has been worth it. This is a very addictive game that will grab you from the start and won't let go. Dying only fuels your drive to go back and do it all over again, as you learn from your mistakes and try to recover the last feather (or two) you lost in the process.
I highly recommend that you get Wailing Heights. The amount of enjoyment that you will get from the game is more than worth its asking price. The excellent art style, funky gameplay mechanics, the great soundtrack, everything is just great in this game! The game has 11 trophies in total, which means it's a pure Gold trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you! I had a blast playing this one, and I hope that we get a sequel!
The Spectrum Retreat is a game that I had been following, and I'm happy I got a chance to play it since I definitely liked its lush futuristic hotel setting, the color-based puzzle solving, and the great story. The one complaint would be the weird-looking mannequins, but that's about it! Hopefully Dan Smith gives us some extra puzzles as DLC since I had fun with this 5-7 hour release and wouldn't mind more puzzles, or a full-fledged sequel!
Castle of Heart is an entertaining action platformer that has been released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The graphics are good, and there's minimal voice acting, which is understandable for an indie release since voice acting would considerably raise the cost of releasing a video game. I liked being able to get weapons from enemies since this helped me to get through some sticky situations, especially when I used the environments to defeat enemies.
In the end, it's really hard for me to recommend Deeli Network's game, especially at that price. It's got its share of basic QA issues (non-working controls were the worst) that can't be ignored, and it has an OK storyline and combat system. If your time with Gene Rain feels different from my experience, be sure to let us know in the comments below!
Super Skull Smash GO! 2 Turbo is a fun but short 2D platformer that you should give a go on PlayStation Vita, or on PlayStation 4 if you want to make the most of your cross-buy purchase. If you're good at platformers you can be done in a couple of hours, Platinum trophy included if you find all secret items for the miscellaneous trophies.
Overall, Hexalogic is a short, relaxing and very addictive puzzle game on Nintendo Switch that is very easy to recommend. It's available in the Nintendo eshop for only $2.99, and at that price you'll get to enjoy over 70 puzzles over a couple of hours.
Kenshō is a nice minimalist puzzle game that you should check out on Nintendo Switch. It's relaxing soundtrack, colorful visuals and tight gameplay mechanics come together to give us a game that is fun to play, and it has more than enough content to keep you busy for a few hours at home or on the go.
The gameplay mechanics are something that you need to get used to, but the overall quirky premise of "aliens have invaded an old VHS collection" is definitely interesting, not to mention that the movies that are parodied in this game will keep you busy for a while.
The final installment of The Banner Saga trilogy is just as thrilling, fun, and story-driven as the previous two episodes.
Inksplosion is a fun twin-stick arcade-style shooter on Nintendo Switch that lures you in with the “one more go” addictive of arcade releases, as you aim to beat your own highscore or to progress further in the game as you learn new tricks and basically get better at it. Be sure to check it out!
Lode Runner Legacy is a must-have game for both those new to the series as well as for fans of the long-running series. The game offers a ton of levels split in different modes, and being able to create your own stages, as well as play those created by players around the world, make this a must-buy game on Nintendo Switch.
Shape of The World is exactly what I was expecting: a fun and relaxing exploration game with a soothing soundtrack and a charming art style presented with a nice pallet of colors that invite you to stay in this adventure from start to finish. After waiting for the game for a while, I can certainly say that the wait has been worth it.
Train Sim World delivers on its promise: you'll be a train driver in many different situations. If you're looking for a building sim game, you should also check out Jurassic World Evolution, which I recently reviewed.
Lanota is a fun music rhythm game with a nice storytelling component that brings the whole package together under a fantasy setting. The different difficulty options, the speed settings, and how you can play all songs in either Tune or Purify depending on your skill level and experience with rhythm games make it possible for all types of players to enjoy this Nintendo Switch release, even if you can only play the game while in Handheld mode.
Yoku's Island Express is a very fun pinball/Metroidvania that you should check out on Nintendo Switch. The colorful art style and the great level design, mixed with the pinball mechanics and the Metroidvania side of things, make this a very entertaining release that everyone can enjoy, even those who are not a fan of full-on pinball games. Villa Gorilla HAS certainly found a creative way of presenting a new type of game, and one I'm sure you're going to like.
Reinkout Games have created a pretty fun and unique experience with Mugsters. The concept and objectives are simple, yet challenging at times as you'll have to test out every way you can to get to your objectives. It's one of those games that you start playing without any expectations, but end up spending hours on it because it's incredibly fun and addictive. I'm happy that Team17 helped to publish this game on PS4 since it's a blast!
I liked playing through Unravel Two with my daughter, and if you're into playing gorgeous couch co-op games, then you're certainly in for a treat since this is a very good puzzle platformer. The game is roughly 4-5 hours long, and is fun to play with friends or family members, so I definitively recommend this release.
Like I mentioned, I loved and platinumed Overcooked, and I WILL Platinum Overcooked 2 as well thanks to the help of my daughter who's been enjoying the game as much as I have. So far this year, this is my best couch multiplayer game I've played, and I definitely recommend that you to purchase this game, so that we can eventually get an Overcooked 3!
Figment is a clever, fun, charming, and great looking adventure on Nintendo Switch that you should definitely play. The game might be a tad linear, but that only means you won't be taking on any unnecessary side-quests that could distract you from the story and your main objective: saving this mind from the nightmares. The game's hand-drawn look, the rhythmic sounds that will complement the action and welcome you to each new area you visit, and the funny songs that are showcased during boss fights will keep you coming back for more until you complete this 6-8 hour journey.
