If you're a fan of sandbox games, then you should definitely check out Birthdays the Beginning. It's a quirky, colorful and fun sandbox release with a ton of lifeforms to create and capture, giving you dozens of hours of gameplay for your purchase. There have been a couple of patches to the game to rebalance things, and the Platinum will take you “forever” since you'll need to basically keep your PS4 running for months, but don't let that get in your way since the overall experience is great.
I really liked Gang Beasts. It might seem as if there isn't a lot going on for this one, but trust me when I say it's the perfect party game for when you have friends over! It has now become one of the essential party game I bring out when friends visit, so be sure to give this one a go!
Overall, Innerspace is a very relaxing, charming, and beautifully colorful release on PlayStation 4. The gameplay mechanics, art style, and music come together to give us a very interesting release that is definitely worth your time and money. Trophy hunters will be able to aim at getting a Platinum trophy added to their collection, which is always a plus, right? Kudos to PolyKnight Games and Aspyr for working to release this one, since it's a great addition to the PS4 library.
Tiny Metal is a great homage to the Advance Wars series that is going to seriously scratch that itch for fans of Nintendo's strategy series. Its colorful look, fun gameplay mechanics, good unit variety and a solid amount of content to enjoy will keep you busy for several hours, making this a must-buy for fans of the strategy genre. Area35 did a great job with this game, and I'm very glad this one made it to the Nintendo Switch.
I highly recommend that you get Aces of Luftwaffe Squadron on Nintendo Switch as its a fun shoot 'em up with an interesting power-up system and lots of content to enjoy. The one complaint I'd have for the game is the small slowdown experienced during more action-packed sequences, but it's not a deal-breaker since it doesn't happen everywhere – the developer will probably patch this soon.
80's Overdrive is a fun racer that pays homage to Outrun and does so in style. The tight gameplay mechanics, colorful graphics and solid soundtrack come together to give us a great portable arcade racer with plenty of levels to complete, a time attack and even a level editor so that you can customize your own levels to share with the world. If you're in the mood for a new pixeltastic racer on the go, then give this one a go.
PSN Price (PlayStation 4): $19.99
Wick is a creepy jump-scare horror game that does a lot with the relatively small area in which you need to survive the attacks of the ghost kids. The fact that every time you die the location of the candles for the one-hour block you're playing will be randomized means there are some small changes to how you approach subsequent runs, but that's about it as far as randomization goes. Overall, I liked the game and continued going back to it to try and survive past another one-hour blockand then another one, and then another one. If you're a fan of horror games, then you're going to dig this short but fun indie release.
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows is a great sequel to Yomawari: Night Alone that bumps up the horror and gore while doing everything that its prequel did so well. If you liked the first game in the series then you're going to love this one, but even if you haven't played it you can dive right into the sequel since it's mostly self-contained.
School Girl/Zombie Hunter is an interesting game, but it's not for everyone. The story is fun, and the gameplay features decent but uninspired gunplay and an odd level structure. If you get offended by games in which girls are constantly reduced to their underwear, then this one certainly isn't for you. But if you're a fan of the Onechanbara series then you should definitely try this one.
PSN Price: Game: $49.99 DLC: $14.99 Complete Edition: $59.99
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a fun puzzle platformer that is worth a download. The graphics are very pretty, polished and colorful, and the game looks great when played docked on the TV or on the go in Tabletop or Portable mode. This is a quality Switch port of an entertaining release that is worth your time and money.
PSN Price (PlayStation 4): $39.99
Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is an excellent game that is console exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, and one that is a must-play on the hybrid console. Castle Pixel and FDG Entertainment have done a great job developing the game, giving us a very polished adventure with a ton of content to enjoy at home or on the go.
Great end to Season 2!
As with some others out there, I have experienced some terrible lag. Lag that almost ruins the game's experience for players. But on the flip side, I have played games where it's been literally as smooth as a proverbial baby's bum. With some tweaking, especially on the PVP side of things, the game will be an experience like no other – right now, it's a lot of fun, incredibly addictive and leaves me wanting to get back to it as soon as I've written this review and if Sloclap gets the lag under control, it'll be a true ass kicker of a game.
The graphics are impressive, the battle system is perfect, and the story is epic. This is a turn-based RPG you don't want to miss, so be sure to buy it today since I'm sure you'll LOVE it!
Tokyo Xanadu eX+ is a solid action RPG on PlayStation 4 with good gameplay mechanics and a heavy emphasis on its story and setting. It's a meaty adventure with 50+ hours ahead of you, and even longer if you want to aim at getting a new Platinum for your collection. The improvements made over Tokyo Xanadu on PS Vita for this PS4 port make this a better overall game and one that is easy to recommend.
Apart from the minor pains, 99Vidas is genuine and fun homage to the games that inspired it and is definitely worth your time and money
I could keep talking about how awesome Super Mario Odyssey is, but I don't want to spoil your experience with the game. Rest assured that it's Game of the Year for a reason, and a must have release for all Nintendo Switch owners out there.
