9 / 10.0 - Townsmen

I would say it is well worth the price you will pay. I have had fun with this game, and I think you will too.

8 / 10.0 - THE VIDEOKID
Jun 13, 2018

The Videokid is developer Pixeltrip's modern runner with a retro twist. It puts players back in an era when VHS was the only way to watch movies at home. As a thoroughly irresponsible teenager, we take to our skateboard to deliver tapes, cause mischief, and avoid oncoming obstacles. This is our Videokid review.

8.5 / 10.0 - Cosmic Star Heroine
Jun 13, 2018

Cosmic Star Heroine is an homage to classic 90s sci-fi RPGS, and it works really well to evoke that sense of adventure. It may be a short affair, but its combat mechanics are tight, the drudgery of traditional JRPGs is wiped away by clever design decisions, and at fifteen bucks, it's well worth the price of entry. Recommended.

The PC version is unquestionably the definitive version.

8.2 / 10.0 - Pinstripe

Pinstripe was an excellent game when it launched earlier this year on other consoles, and remains an excellent adventure here on the Nintendo Switch.

Overall, I think Victor Vran: Overkill Edition is definitely a game worth a play.  While the comparisons to Diablo III will obviously be made, Victor Vran adds different mechanics to shake up the tried-and-true ARPG format and does a great job doing so.  Adding the ability to play the game on the go means you can keep your loot grind going whenever you have a chance.  And come on, who doesn't want to power slide through a bunch of demons?

If there's anything really "meh" about Ys VIII it's that the story takes a good long while to get going. It crawls along with dream sequences that don't really generate interest, and the first hour or more is just you running around the soon-to-crash ship talking to people. But once you're adventuring on the island, fishing, crafting, learning new skills, finding new secrets, and meeting new survivors, Ys VIII becomes a very memorable experience. It makes me hope we don't wait so long for a Ys IX, and that it's given the care and attention it deserves.

7.5 / 10.0 - Road Redemption
Jun 13, 2018

Road Redemption is a violent, but wacky successor to the Road Rash franchise born in the 90s. It's an “over-the-top” biker beat'em up that has some buggy moments, but they make for some of the more entertaining points. If you like the pacing of rogue-likes in a beat'em up wrapper, Road Redemption is worth swinging a pipe at.

If you're a fan of Steven Universe, and you own a Switch, this is a no-brainer. It's an excellent take on the Paper Mario RPG formula with a few tricks of its own up its sleeve to boot. Given that the PS4 and XB1 version's tech issues are solved here, it's well worth the price of entry on Switch.

8 / 10.0 - Hand of Fate 2
Jun 13, 2018

Hand of Fate 2 was an excellent spin on the ARPG when it came out in late 2017. It's even better now that it's on the Switch. The same issues are still present, namely that combat can be too simplistic, and there are just so many games on the console that Hand of Fate 2 could easily be overlooked. I hope that instead, Defiant's sequel sees a lot of new players, as it's a series I hope to see continue to evolve.

8 / 10.0 - Battlerite
Jun 13, 2018

I found Battlrite Royale enjoyable, and even heart pumping as you encounter players of progressively better skill while making your own way up the ranks. So, whether you're an old pro at these arena type games or are just looking for a break from your regular library of games, you might want to give this a chance. Simple, fun, and engaging, it's certainly a great diversion.

8.4 / 10.0 - Battle Chef Brigade
Jun 13, 2018

Battle Chef Brigade is a mash up of two addicting game types slathered in an Anime sauce and served up hot and spicy with several different game modes to keep players salivating for more. The hunting beat'em up portion of the game is responsive and requires timing and coordination while the cooking segment requires time management and nimble matching capabilities. While some early matches can feel repetitive, and despite the many different modes to play, the lasting appeal may be somewhat suspect, Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe has done an amazing job at making the mixture of sidescrolling action and match 3 puzzles more than palatable, but simply scrumptious.

Overall, Sinner will start you off without knowing what to do, and it will continue to push you through harder and harder challenges while still not really knowing what it's all for. The game is currently available on Discord, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $18.99 USD. Is it worth even that? Maybe it is for someone who wants to play a Dark Souls type game with no levels to go through. It isn't a big cost so it is a little bit more palatable than say a sixty dollar game.

7 / 10.0 - Deiland
Jun 13, 2018

As a chilled, low-stress experience that strikes the right blend of cuteness and charm, Deiland certainly delivers, even though it lacks the depth and complexity of sandbox games that appeal to an older audience. Yes, there are a few bugs, but they don't get in the way of the magical fun on offer.

5.5 / 10.0 - R.B.I. Baseball 18
Jun 13, 2018

Sadly, RBI Baseball 18, while ahead of last year's edition, is still obviously hampered by porting the mobile version to consoles and charging 300% more. It's not worth your time or your money, unless you're really hard up for a Switch baseball game. If you have access to any other console, play something there instead. Keep an eye on RBI Baseball as a series though, as they're making strides. It's got a long way to go, but they're clearly trying to make a great game.

8 / 10.0 - Flipping Death

Flipping Death is more than clever, you come away from it feeling like a mad scientist of pop up books and although the ending leaves some questions - you hope that just means you'll see Penny again in her next life.

9.8 / 10.0 - Marvel's Spider-Man
Jun 13, 2018

Insomniac has created a living, breathing Spiderverse that both fans and newcomers alike can appreciate. The fluidity of combat and world traversal makes it hands down the best Super Hero game in years, but it isn't without some pitfalls. The main story itself is generally believed to take about 20 hours to complete, but for players that focus primarily on the main story, it could take less. Side missions will keep players busy, but without additional content, dedicated players may find they have run out of content well before the DLC hits in October. Despite the low hours for story completion, Insomniac has created the must have hero game this year.

9 / 10.0 - Moonlighter
Jun 13, 2018

Moonlighter is an overall brilliant sum of its parts with the kind of things roguelike fans, action RPG fans or even lifestyle sim fans can find engaging. It's an addicting piece of grinding RPG gaming that comes highly recommended on any platform you choose.
