Though the plot moves slowly in episode 3 of Guardians of the Galaxy, it still sets the stage for something great. Those looking to learn more about the crew of the Milano may enjoy it, but the more impatient among us may see this chapter as a half step.
Windjammers is a timeless game that is perfect for competitive play. DotEmu's release isn't the most robust around, but those looking to recapture the spirit of SNK will have fun with this title.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a good first step towards what will hopefully become a series for Ubisoft and Nintendo. Fans of Mario games, strategy RPGs, or even Switch games in general should grab this without hesitation.
The Metronomicon: Slay the Dance Floor is still a fun game despite its issues. I just wish there was a way tighten its focus.
As a relatively new fan to the franchise, Yakuza Kiwami offers another fantastic journey in the life of Kazuma Kiryu. From the serious to the outright wacky and perverted, I loved every second and thoroughly look forward to the next chapter in the experience.
While the story is a bit on the shorter side, it doesn't fall into the trap of overstaying its welcome. If you are a fan of Uncharted, third person shooters, or just great actions games, pick up Uncharted: The Lost Legacy without any hesitation.
The second episode of this season of Minecraft: Story Mode is designed for kids, but dumbs things down a little too much in the process. Though some of the gameplay elements are welcome, the meandering plot does not seem to be hitting its stride. Here's hoping the third episode picks up the pace.
Shmups may be known for their challenge, but Aeternum is simply unfair. It may have the basics foundation down, but the execution leaves something to be desired.
Sonic Mania has everything you could ever want from a Sonic game. The levels are carefully crafted, the bosses are unique, and the fanservice is off the charts. Those looking for the second coming of SEGA's mascot have found it here.
Despite the small stumbles along the way, Cliffy B has delivered a fun – if limited – experience with LawBreakers.
Agents of Mayhem does exactly what it says on the tin. It's chaotic. The cast of characters are memorable and fun as hell to play. The humor is well delivered and not forced. It's just a shame more imagination wasn't put into the objective-based gameplay at its core.
Observer is a good psychological horror game with some minor road blocks that ultimately hold it back. Still, if you are looking for a horror game this summer, you could do far worse.
Rez Infinite is an audiovisual treat all gamers should experience at least once. It might not be the longest or most in-depth game out there, but it aesthetics are practically unrivaled in this day and age.
Graze Counter's Graze and Burst mechanics add an extra layer of strategy to this shoot-em-up. It's not the most robust or revolutionary game around, but those looking to take to the skies will appreciate what it has to offer.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was just a few short steps from a masterpiece. Poorly constructed puzzles and a number of frustratingly pointless illusion mechanics seriously hinder the experience at times, but a disturbingly brilliant narrative and plot make for a truly worthwhile experience. Even now, hours after putting down the pad, the game has invoked a deep discussion between the voices in my own head – and that's no small feat.
Tacoma tries to tell a tale in a unique way, but does not quite achieve its vision. The disconnect between the player and the characters, along with the short length, make it a hard sell for fans of walking simulators.
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is a decent hack-and-slash with a solid character upgrade system. If you are a fan of the FATE series, then you will most likely enjoy this game. If you don't know anything about it, however, then you might want to check a couple videos out before purchasing the game.
The Darkside Detective is a solid adventure for any fan of the paranormal. If you like point and click games and The X-Files, this is one game you should check out.
Pixel Shopkeeper is a great shop management sim that can take hours away from your life. If you like management sims, then this game should be on your radar.
Cave Story+ is a game most people will have played in one form or another. If you haven't and you are looking for a decent Mega Man fix, then Cave Story+ is for you.
