10 / 10 - Persona 5
May 1, 2017

Half visual novel, half dungeon crawl, all awesome. 100 hours of actually meaningful content, a unique (and sometimes uniquely brutal) combat system, excellent writing, and extremely unsubtle social commentary, all wrapped up in a very stylish package. Definitely not for everybody, but if you've spend the last 10 years wishing they still made JRPGs like they did in 2006, and you're willing to put in a lot of time, then this is probably the game for you.

An edge-of-your-sit experience with everything a blockbuster would give you: love, fear, excitement, drama and sorrow. Amazing acting and motion capture with uniquely crafted backdrops showing the real potential of Sony studios, supported by solid and addictive gameplay. A solo experience no gamer should miss, and a multiplayer addiction that is hard to avoid, fully worth full price.

A fantastic game that holds its own against Dark Souls. A brand new setting and new gameplay mechanics add a freshness to the Souls formula. There's a lot to explore and experience including savage death. Right now, it's the best RPG of the current gen.

10 / 10 - Dark Souls III
Apr 4, 2016

A content-packed, thrilling, exciting and moving rpg adventure sure to rekindle the fan bonfire. Outsanding visuals, setting and design with a strong gameplay backbone and lore finishes, fully worthy of its 59.99 pricetag. We may go hollow from framerate, and the occasionally laggy invasion, but the near-perfect multiplayer has likely settled this as our GOTY

Great start, complex strategies, new Leaders to discover, detailed diplomacy, beautiful graphics and a replayability factor that could never be fit into a score. Quality gaming has never felt better!

All of the elements that made Episode 1 great, are just a touch better in Episode 2. Characters and voice acting settle in well. Plot points and character interactions are top notch here. Replayability gets a boost due to more significant choices that could be compelling to try a "do over" on. To better compare, Episode 1 isn't quite a tutorial, but presents as a solid introduction. Episode 2 uses that foundation and takes flight (on awexome batwings).

I've left out the specific criteria as they would match episode 2. Telltale continues right where they left off and run with it. Batman is, through Episode 3, a consistently excellent game. This installment, being right in the middle, delivers on the tried and true practice of delivering conflict after character and story development. And wow is there conflict! Bruce is one unlucky bastard

10 / 10 - Nioh
Feb 3, 2017

Nioh is brilliant. It takes some of the best elements of old school gaming such as level design, customization and layout and mixes it perfectly with modern action combat and online components. In the middle is a timeless loot and upgrade system that adds hours of tinkering. Team Ninja has packed a ton of content into this game, almost to a fault. The amount of things you can do and engage in is almost overwhelming, and that is not including the subtle stats, stances, and the upcoming DLC and PvP. 2017 is just getting underway, but Nioh has already made its case for Game of the Year.

Overall I'd say the game remains stable. There's not much point to doing ranking for individual aspects, but in comparison to Episodes 1-3, the story takes a small hit this time. However, replayability gets a nice boost for sure and a couple small tweaks introduce just enough variation to the mix to give gameplay a small upward adjustment.

Once again, only the overall score is necessary. Telltale delivers a consistent experience from start to finish, carried along by the strength of its story and voice acting. Gameplay is quite good for a Point and Click affair. Puzzles are on the casual end for sure for the genre, but the QTEs and dialogue segments are the true winners here. Replayability depends on the player. Those who care about the different choices will likely take it for another spin. The price is fair, but I would again point out that people need to be aware that you're paying for the incredibly high production of the story/acting rather than an epic saga that will take you years to complete. To conclude, Telltale fans likely don't need to be sold on this. Batman fans looking for a unique spin on things shouldn't miss it either. For everyone else, remember Episode 1 is free and what you see there only gets better.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 takes the already high bar set by its predecessor and somehow dead lifts it to even greater heights. Larian has proven that it knows exactly how to make THE GAME that everyone wants, because they are the GAMER everyone else is. Divinity: Original Sin 2 doesn't do anything complicated or confusing, it simply delivers what players want in a game: challenge, creativity, freedom and of course the ability to share all that with your BFFs. As it stands now Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the front runner for RPG of the Year. For 44.99$ this game is vastly under priced and is perhaps one of the few games out there that actually justifies a 59.99$ price tag.

Plentiful, engaging and beautifully designed content adds many hours of playtime and reasons to return to the base game one year after release, be it to enjoy fashion souls or your powerful new arsenal, or simply explore what humanity may have meant all along. A fitting end to a fantastic game, worth full price.

9.5 / 10.0 - Elden Ring
Feb 23, 2022

Elden Ring is FromSoftware's Magnum Opus, and it's hard to imagine them making a better game. The only negatives are performance related, which can by and large be overlooked. Elden Ring delivers on a scale that few games ever have, and likely ever will again. A day one buy for RPG and open world fans. Don't miss out on this once in a decade experience!

From it's breath taking environments to it's stellar combat and style, you won't be able to stop playing Ghost of Tsushima. It is made from the same cloth as games like God of War, Bloodborne, and Uncharted when it comes to PS4 exclusives and is a solid Game of the Year contender. For 60 USD you will get more than your money's worth and an experience to remember.

Red Dead Redemption 2 only gets better and better as you progress, and although I'm not entirely sure Red Dead Redemption 2 is the game to beat in 2018, I do believe it is at the very least in the conversation.

Demon's Souls Remake is a faithful reconstruction of the original game with subtle modern-day improvements. A genre-defining masterpiece, it's one of those games that is not for everyone but should be tried by everyone. Running beautifully in 4k and smoothly at 60FPS, Boletaria will entice you to go further, explore deeper, and dare to die again. Fully worth the PS5 launch price.

9 / 10 - Returnal
Apr 29, 2021

A sleeper hit, Returnal is bound to captivate you from start to finish, no pun intended. If you are a fan of good Sci-fi in the vein of The Expanse, Stranger Things, or Mass Effect, you surely won't want to miss this game. Returnal is the early front runner for Game of the Year 2021, making a compelling case to get a Playstation 5...if you can find one.
