101 Ways to Die has its own unique charm and as with a majority of indies games they can either be a hit or a miss, luckily Four Door Lemon knew what they were doing when creating this addictive title.
Ultimately, you get what you put in to No Man’s Sky. It takes a load of dedication and searching to get the most out of the world and as more and more players continue through the galaxy it will be amazing to see what everyone finds. That being said if you aren’t one for picking an objective, like finding all a planets discoveries for a tidy lump sum, and need a narrative focus there is no real point to picking up No man’s Sky.
If you’re a puzzle fan this game will be right up your street. If you like fantasy/fairytale games & stories you should definitely consider giving this a go. If, like me, you’re a fan of both then you’ll have double the fun if you decide this is a game you can’t go without playing any longer.
Dex is light in terms of story, it's fairly linear but does the genre it resides in justice by implementing all the tropes that make Cyberpunk great. Hacking, conspiracies, and cybernetics are all present. With doom and gloom around every corner of this dystopian society it's easy to find yourself wrapped up in its civil unrest.
The king is back, kind of, in a perfect remaster of Duke Nukem 3D. Any fans of the FPS genre and Duke need this game. With some nice extras and a few tweaks you'll be able to save all the babes in the world one more time.
There’s a great feeling of risk and reward to Sniper Elite 4; you can take risky shots and clear entire maps with just your sniper or you can take on a full battalion assault with a scavenged MP40. With impressive depth and more to do than any other war time shooter in current memory, I would highly recommend the game to anyone.
Tekken 7 is a massive milestone for the series in terms of gameplay, but a poor story and lack of offline modes might work against it.
Assuming that you play the titles in chronological order, N. Sane Trilogy will only get better the more you go into it, and the combined playtime of trilogy confidently justifies its current price tag. It’s a reminder of why Crash was arguably the best at 3D platformers in the Nineties, and the few adjustments needed in these remakes show that the original trilogy have stood the test of time; especially Crash: Warped.
World to the West is a truly vibrant game that will have you bursting forth with your inner Indiana Jones.
Difficulty aside, Sine Mora EX is a unique and fun experience that sits memorable amongst the plethora of cookie cutter shmups. More importantly, it's just a genuinely good game in its own right. If you didn't play it in 2012, you should definitely play it now.
Even as a relatively distant fan of Dragon ball, I was totally invested in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Dangerously so. Hours dropped off the clock as I perfected my team.
Far Cry 4 takes what made Far Cry 3 so special and expands on a winning formula. With lots to do in both singleplayer and cooperatively you'll find Ubisoft's latest entry to the series a worthwhile investment.
The Evil Within takes the survival horror genre back to its roots and executes it in an extremely cinematic fashion with great atmosphere. Slightly jarring bugs and frustrating camera angles can be totally overlooked as you bask in Mikami's excellence.
A hauntingly complex story full of creepy characters means that The Charnel House Trilogy is an indie title you need to keep your eye out for on PC.
In a surprising turn of events, GG&C presents a humour riddled take on gangsters vs zombies. It's snappy and great fun with friends at a low price. It's hard not to pass up an Italian zombie mash-up of Metal Slug.
Oceanhorn is fairly cliché, but it works. It's a tried and tested formula for great adventure games, and that's exactly what Oceanhorn is. While maybe not quite an 'instant classic', it certainly fills a Zelda-shaped void in the non-Nintendo market.
The return of Gears of War is a bittersweet one. The updated graphics detract from the original artstyle, but the improved netcode and online features drag Marcus and the gang kicking and screaming in to the next generation. Putting aside the issues with frame rate, it is a smut have for any lancer enthusiast.
A glorious return to form for Agent 47 and the Hitman series. Even the constant server issues can't stand in the way of just how rewarding the gameplay is and the multitudes of approaches to the mission.
Shadow Warrior 2 surpasses everything that was its predecessor's 2013 release. A larger roster of weaponry to choose from, a Diablo-esque loot system for equipment upgrades, greatly improved visuals and most importantly, a 4-player cooperative mode.
Metrico+ should serve as a pleasant surprise for Xbox One owners looking for something to tax the brain, whilst whiling away the time until the big releases start to roll through again. However, it’s actually a game that I’d recommend at any time. It’s a unique mix of puzzling and platforming in its own right, but tie in the abstraction that permeates every aspect of it, and it’s a surprisingly intriguing package.
